Why pursue Art?
My name is Reese Withey and I am an aspiring watercolor artist! I have a deep love of certain anime, and found painting to be an outlet for me to express myself and my emotions⭑.ᐟ
In 2022 I began working as a proxy for an artist at comic-cons due to the flexible schedule, and the appeal of doing shows. Furthermore, the family aspect did help! Shortly into working, I fell in love with the inspiration and happiness I felt surrounded by all of the art! I continued working for this artist to continue growing and saving money, while also drawing and painting during the off times (on top of school!) By 2024, I was ready to spread my wings! I started pursuing my own art full time in September of 2024, and got to vend at Ocala Comic Con! It was a really great experience, many friends and family came out to support, and I just knew I was in the right place!
Although anything you do may face some resistance, I am proud of myself for sticking to it and really being true to myself during this whole time! The biggest sign from the universe that this is where I’m meant to be came on November 27th, 2024: I GOT INTO SAN DIEGO COMIC CON!!!! I was BEYOND ELATED! Seriously I am still reeling over it about six months later. At the point of me submitting my application, I had NEVER done a comic-con (but had booths paid for at 2). I sent them an email after being a vendor for a previous employer for an application into artist alley and a few months later . . . BAM! I was in!!! I still can’t believe it! Now I’ll have 4 shows under my belt, and one is COMIC-CON INTERNATIONAL!!

Since then I have poured my heart and soul into Reese’s Watercolor, and I feel that it has allowed me to not only meet amazing people but to also grow within myself! I love being able to bring the things that I love into another space, and with my own twist to it. The smiles that my art brings to people I see, and the satisfaction of finishing a painting seriously drive me and keep me so incredibly inspired! I love watching new things and feeling inspired to create art about it too!
What else do you do?
In May 2025 I graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology! ✧｡٩(ˊᗜˋ)و✧*｡
UF was my dream school, a university that all of my family have a great love for! I am so incredibly proud of myself for not only getting in, but finishing my degree with a 3.5 GPA! This is such a huge achievement for me! ˚ ༘ ೀ⋆｡˚
After graduation, I have decided to take a gap year to focus on my art career, and continue gaining research experience to use for graduate school! After a year, I will hopefully attend a Masters Program at the University of Central Florida while also being a small biz owner with Reese’s Watercolor! She’s an independent woman! ദ്ദി(˵ •̀ ᴗ – ˵ ) ✧
Following the completion of my Masters, I plan to get a big girl job as a Clinical Psychologist for Pediatrics! Essentially, I want to be a child and adolescent therapist! I grew up with a lot of mental health issues as a child, and I would love to be someone that a someone in need could turn to when they don’t have the resources to help themselves. On top of all of this, I would really like to continue making new works of art and building upon my craft! Comic-cons are events that I really enjoy going to, and love to network and befriend other artists! My dad, Ryan, is also big in the comic-con world, so it’s fun to see him there too! In the future I plan to continue doing both — Child psychologist by weekday — Comic-Con International Artist by weekend ᕙ( •̀ ᗜ •́ )ᕗ

My favorite fun fact to share: I met my best friend at a comic-con!
I was working for my previous employer at Anime 405 in Oklahoma City back in 2023 when Trinity and her friends asked me to join their pirate crew as their “Nami” (One Piece reference for you non-nerds out there.) Without hesitation I said “Of course!” And the rest is history! Since then they treat me as their Nami even if I live MILES away, and I love each and every one of them!! Shoutout to my crew, and shoutout Nami she’s seriously my favorite character of all time without question. (ෆ˙ᵕ˙ෆ)♡

My mom is also someone whom I treasure so very much!! Her, as well as my three aunties (Crystal, Sarah and Tammie), my grandma (Marlene), and their boyfriends ALL came to support me at Brick City Anime Fest back in Jan 2025 for my birthday weekend!! They drove over four hours to be there and they are seriously just so kind 😦
